Audacity Book Club: Summer Break

Hello, audacious readers!
May was an extremely busy time for Audacity (and me) so, we are going on a break!
This is going to be different from most breaks because it’s going to last for June and July. I know, I know! There’s just so much going on, career-wise and life-wise, but I promise I will hurry back for August. Until then, I will leave you with a few suggestions that celebrate both Pride Month and My Choice Month (aka July, because I pick whatever I want).
So, let’s celebrate a group of people that consistently fight for their right to love openly and honestly:
Deadly Ever After by Brittany Johnson: A pair of princesses who died before they reach their full potential have a second chance at life, only if they can find their true love’s kiss.
There’s Only One Sin in Hollywood by Rasheed Newson: A Hollywood fixer investigates into the suspicious death of a closeted Black actor within the glamorous world of the 1950’s film industry.
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers: In a solarpunk future, a monk and a robot contemplate the purpose of existence.
Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin: A classic for a reason, an American in Paris starts a doomed love affair with a bartender named Giovanni while his fiancée is away.
And for My Choice Month, I’m picking books that stayed with me long after I finished the last page:
The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: Think Love & Basketball vibes but in early 1900’s Mexico with magic.
The Translation of Dr. Apelles by David Treuer: A man finds a story that only he can translate and his world starts to open up as he works on it.
Babel by R.F. Kuang: A story about how translation gives something, loses other things but is never the same.
Dawn by Octavia E. Butler: An end-of-the-world Sci-Fi book that actually goes beyond Earth.
And, as always, for both months:
Anything You Want by Whoever You Want: Whether long, short, audiobook, kindle book, hardcover, paperback, something from your TBR or a book you just saw on the shelves, let’s take the time to read something new (and preferably gay or black or fun. Or all three).
